Social media influencers Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were taken into custody in Miami on Saturday. This occurred after British prosecutors announced new criminal charges against them and sought their extradition to the United Kingdom.
The Tates, known for their large online following with content often criticized for promoting misogynistic views, were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service. Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the agency, confirmed the arrests to The Associated Press.
The U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) revealed it has authorized additional charges against the brothers, involving four more alleged victims. The CPS has requested their extradition from the United States.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the CPS outlined the charges against Andrew Tate, 39. He faces seven new counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 charges related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. These alleged offenses took place between July 2010 and August 2017. The new charges increase the total number of alleged victims to seven.
The Tates have consistently denied any wrongdoing. Following their arrest, Joseph McBride, the lawyer representing Andrew and Tristan Tate, stated to the BBC, “The world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent.”
