President Trump has urged the Senate to pass a cryptocurrency regulation bill in honor of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who recently passed away. Graham died after a brief illness, and preliminary findings suggest an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease was the cause.
The 71-year-old senator was primarily focused on foreign policy rather than cryptocurrency legislation, having been involved with a Russian sanctions package and discussions around the war in Iran before his death. Despite this, the proposed crypto bill, known as the Clarity Act, is a priority for Trump and the GOP as the midterm elections approach. The bill is expected to be voted on before Congress’s August recess.
Trump emphasized Graham’s support by stating on Truth Social, “In honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, a big supporter, the U.S. Senate should pass the Clarity Act.” He highlighted competition with China and other nations over control of financial markets and artificial intelligence, urging, “Don’t let China win on either subject!”
