A young boy, identified as Kaizer, survived being struck by a stray bullet while riding his bicycle outside his home in Detroit. The incident took place on Lindsay Street, near Trojan Avenue, close to Fargo-Oakfield Park on Detroit’s west side. The child has been released from the hospital and is expected to recover.
Kaizer’s father recounted the terrifying moment when gunfire erupted as his son rode near the driveway and sidewalk in front of their home. “He just fell on the ground out of nowhere,” the father explained. Initially, Kaizer believed he had been hit by a firework, exclaiming, ‘A firecracker hit me.’ The father quickly realized the severity of the situation when he saw blood and tried to calm his son by using his shirt to staunch the bleeding. He then rushed Kaizer to a nearby hospital, where the boy received treatment and was released the following day.
During a news conference, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison noted that the suspected shooter is believed to be a masked teenager. Kaizer was described as an innocent victim caught in an unpredictable and violent act. The teenager thought to be involved was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon. However, authorities are still searching for at least one more suspect related to the shooting.
Details about the suspects and possible charges have not yet been disclosed as the investigation continues. Kaizer’s father perceives his son’s survival as remarkable. “I know God was watching over him,” he remarked. He expressed disbelief that someone would bring a firearm to a park where children play.
