“There’s a movement happening now in Maine and across the U.S. People grow weary of the current governmental approach in D.C. They dislike billionaires obtaining tax cuts and individuals losing health coverage,” he said. “I don’t want this momentum to end. That’s what I’ve been battling for my entire life. If Graham exits the race, I am confident it should proceed, and I am the ideal person to ensure its continuation.”

Maine election law, detailed in Title 21-A, §374-A, provides a procedure for replacing a general-election nominee post-primary, allowing Democrats the option to nominate an alternate candidate in November, despite Platner’s primary victory.

A Public Policy Polling survey, sponsored by Platner’s campaign, showcased Jackson leading Collins in a general election scenario. The poll, conducted with 785 respondents, revealed Jackson had 49% support, compared to Collins’ 44%, while 7% of respondents remained undecided.

Jackson championed a transparent approach to replace Platner. He advocated for engagement from registered Democrats statewide to prevent division among party factions.
“A transparent statewide procedure offers the best opportunity for everyone to feel included,” he noted. He asserted it would safeguard against potential fractures over the selection process.
