Several preservation and cultural heritage groups from the local Washington area have taken legal action to halt the progress on the proposed statue garden in West Potomac Park. These organizations insist that the project must not proceed until it receives explicit authorization from Congress.
Recently, West Potomac Park underwent a significant seawall restoration. Despite this, there remains controversy surrounding President Donald Trump’s plan to designate the park as the site for the upcoming National Garden of American Heroes.
On Monday, a coalition of these groups filed a lawsuit against Trump’s administration. Their primary concern revolves around the potential transformation of national parkland for the construction of this vast statuary garden, arguing that proper legislative approval has not been secured.
