Joan Collins, famous for her role in “Dynasty,” offers insights into aging with grace and passion. At 93, she continues to thrive and stars in a new film, “My Duchess.” At Variety’s Women of Power event, she shared her philosophy on life, emphasizing the importance of simple joys and self-care.
Collins’ Approach to Life and Aging
“I just love life,” Collins said. She prioritizes fresh air, sufficient sleep, hydration, and self-care. This approach helps her maintain a vibrant lifestyle.
Sometimes, Collins seeks inspiration by watching classic films. “Old movies,” she noted, can be a source of confidence. Bette Davis is a particular favorite, along with films from the ’80s and ’90s featuring actors like Jack Nicholson and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Staying Fit and Active
Collins maintains her fitness by working out regularly. “I work out with my trainer a couple of times a week,” she shared, focusing on simple exercises rather than complex machines.
Although she doesn’t indulge in long walks, she keeps active in other ways. “I’ll walk around my apartment tweaking the flowers,” she admitted with a touch of humor.
Family and Health
She credits her good health partly to genetic inheritance. “My father lived to be 87,” she said, highlighting the importance of genetics. Her mother also played a crucial role by prioritizing health and supplements during her childhood.
Finding Love Later in Life
Marriage to Percy Gibson, 32 years her junior, contributes to her joy. They wed in 2002. “We were great pals before we got married,” she explained. Their connection grew from friendship into lasting love.
Collins believes age differences mean little when it comes to genuine companionship. “It’s never too late” for love, she noted, describing their relationship based on mutual respect and shared interests.
Living with Enthusiasm
Her zest for life began early. “I was born with a tremendous enthusiasm for life,” she explained, recalling her childhood filled with creativity and energy.
For Collins, living is a gift. “Life is a gift,” she emphasized, urging others not to waste its precious moments. Her memoir, “Behind the Shoulder Pads,” captures her journey, offering insights into her vibrant, fulfilling life.
